Aligning Waste Management Strategies with Sustainable Development Goals
Waste Management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited has showcased its innovations which is helping to create value out of waste at the West African Clean Energy and Environment Trade Fair and Conference WACEE’24 in Lagos.
The Country Managing Director for Zoomlion in Nigeria, Mrs Habiba Abubakar in a presentation emphasized the critical role that collaborative efforts among various stakeholders and African nations play in improving waste management systems across the continent.
In making a case for Nigeria, She revealed that modern waste management facilities will be established to help recover waste and recycle them into other reusable products and urged governments, private companies, and other organizations to partner with the Jospong Group to achieve more efficient and sustainable waste management practices.
She stressed that these partnerships are essential for aligning waste management strategies with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the areas of clean energy and environmental protection.
Mrs Abubakar explained that Africa can transform its waste challenges into opportunities for economic growth and sustainable development. Citing examples of such opportunities that is helping create a circular economy of Ghana, She indicated that waste treatment plants have been established in all parts of Ghana which is helping to recycle waste into other useful products.
This year’s WACEE event took place in Lagos from 8th-9th October, 2024 at the Balmoral Convention Center, Victoria Island and was on the theme; “Sustainability Showcase: Stimulating Green Economy Investments”
