Zoomlion Ghana Limited Takes Steps to Ensure Pilgrims’ Health and Safety

In a joint effort, Zoomlion Ghana Limited partnered with the National Hajj Committee to conduct a thorough clean-up initiative at the Hajj village located in Accra. This initiative, which occurred from May 17th to May 29th, was designed to establish a welcoming environment for pilgrims before their departure.

The clean-up initiative saw Zoomlion staff helping to clean the washrooms to uphold cleanliness and hygiene, ensured proper water flow, and removing weeds from the surroundings to sustain a tidy environment. The rest were conducting daily refuse collection to preserve a clean and sanitary environment and desilting the drainage system.

This initiative reflects Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s dedication to enhancing the health and safety of pilgrims. Touching on the significance of the clean-up, the Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of Zoomlion, Mr. Eric Sam-Addo indicated that “the clean-up exercise reflects our commitment to protecting the health and dignity of the pilgrims while also ensuring that the host community remains clean and environmentally safe.

To him, “pilgrimages bring large gatherings, and with that comes increased waste. By proactively cleaning and maintaining these areas, we help preserve public health, create a welcoming atmosphere, and promote environmental consciousness among all participants.” He further reiterated that “this partnership is a powerful demonstration of Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s unwavering commitment to environmental sanitation. “Collaborating with key stakeholders allows us to scale our efforts, share responsibility, and achieve greater impact. It reinforces our mission to lead in sustainable waste management and reflects our belief that public-private partnerships are essential for creating cleaner, healthier communities across Ghana”, he noted.

Mr. Sam Addo was optimistic that this initiative will be remembered as a shining example of collective responsibility and proactive environmental stewardship. “Our goal is not just to clean for a day but to inspire lasting behavioural change in how communities and visitors manage waste. Ultimately, we want this to serve as a model for future engagements—where sanitation is prioritized, valued, and integrated into every major public activity”, he said.

Through their collaboration, both organizations have successfully fostered a clean and hygienic environment for pilgrims, promoting their health and safety. The clean-up initiative at the Hajj village in Accra is a testament to Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s dedication to environmental sanitation and public health. The company’s initiatives represent a substantial contribution to the welfare of Ghanaians, and its partnership with the National Hajj Committee exemplifies a model for future collaborative efforts.

Majority of the pilgrims and market women expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Zoomlion and management. One of the Pilgrims, Hajia Alima said a prayer for the Group Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, management, staff members and the YEA operatives. She was happy and excited to see the Hajj Village in a clean state. Another pilgrim, a trader from Upper East, rendered praises and acknowledged the high level of professionalism of the staff of Zoomlion.
