The National Theatre in Accra was filled with colour, music, and excitement as over 1000 school children gathered for the 4th Annual Children’s Sanitation Festival and Sanitation Solutions Challenge. The event, hosted by World Vision Ghana in collaboration with the Zoomlion Foundation, was themed “Raising a New Sanitation-Conscious Generation” and shone a spotlight on the power of children to lead the way in keeping Ghana clean.

Representing over 30 schools under the Zoomkids and Zoom Ambassadors initiative, the pupils thrilled the audience with a series of inspiring performances. From drama skits highlighting the dangers of open defecation to poetry and choreography about waste segregation and the need for toilet facilities in schools, the children used creativity to deliver powerful messages. The atmosphere grew even more electrified as the Kwanpa Music Group led both children and guests in singing melancholic patriotic songs, turning the theatre into a joyful chorus of unity.

A major highlight of the festival was the grand finale of the 6th Sanitation Solutions Challenge. Four brilliant finalists: Desiree Amos (AGBL Basic School, Bibiani), Artaldus Sung Kuutanaa (Accra College of Education Demonstration School), Kolbila Emmanuella (Charis Christian Mission School, Accra), and Kwabena Nyarko (Yiadom Boakye Demonstration School, Berekum) who competed fiercely for the coveted title of Child Sanitation Diplomat.
After a spirited contest, Artaldus Sung Kuutanaa emerged as the 2025 Child Sanitation Diplomat, with Desiree Amos placing second, Emmanuella Kolbila placed third, and Kwabena Nyarko placed fourth. Their achievements were celebrated not just as individual wins but as symbols of the leadership potential of Ghana’s children in shaping a sustainable future. Each contestant went home with cash prices, educational gadgets and waste management items fully sponsored by Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

The event was graced by dignitaries including Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs; who pledged government’s support for child-led sanitation initiatives, underscoring the importance of involving children in national development.
Representing Zoomlion Ghana Limited was Ms. Emma Adwoa Appiaa Osei-Duah, Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs.
In Ms. Osei-Duah’s address, she reaffirmed Zoomlion’s commitment to nurturing young sanitation ambassadors who will inspire their peers and communities to embrace better hygiene and waste management practices.

Other key dignitaries who graced the occasion were, Mrs. Tina Mukunda, National Coordinator of World Vision Ghana.
The 4th Children’s Sanitation Festival was not just an event, it was a movement. It showcased the creativity, intelligence, and passion of Ghana’s young generation, proving that when children lead, a cleaner and healthier nation is possible.
