In a bold step towards sustainable development, three of Ghana’s leading institutions—Kasapreko PLC, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and Zoomlion Foundation joined forces to launch a transformative Zero Waste Outreach Initiative in Nungua on April 2, 2025, mobilizing hundreds of students, officials, and community members for a cleaner, greener future.
8km Plastic Collection Drive
The initiative reached a thrilling climax as 550 volunteers from Kasapreko, NADMO, Zoomlion, and the Nungua community embarked on 8km plastic collection drive along the Nungua-Accra High Street. Equipped with reusable bags and gloves, participants cleared waste while an announcement truck broadcasted recycling education to onlookers and businesses.
“This isn’t just a clean-up—it’s a wake-up call. Waste mismanagement fuels disasters like floods. Together, we’re building resilience,” emphasized Hon. Teddy Safori Addi, Deputy Director General of NADMO.
Industry Commitment to Zero Waste
The event underscored the partners’ long-term pledge to circular economy innovation:
- Kasapreko PLC announced plans to support community recycling schemes and use more recycled materials in packaging.
- Zoomlion Foundation unveiled new recycling champions (Zoom Ambassadors Environmental Club members) for NUSEC.
- NADMO committed to policy advocacy against single-use plastics in markets.
“Waste is a resource. Our collaboration proves that systemic change is possible when individuals, communities and industry unite,” stated Mr. Solomon Bonnah, Human Capital Director of Kasapreko PLC.
A Youth-Led Movement for Change
The campaign kicked off on March 12, 2025, with a Youth Forum at Nungua Secondary School (NUSEC), where over 700 attendees—including students, teachers, and industry leaders brainstormed solutions to the community’s waste challenges. Key outcomes included:
- Recycling infrastructure pledges for NUSEC.
- Support for student-led eco-clubs to sustain momentum.
“Empowering youth is critical to lasting change. Today, Nungua’s students are not just learners—they’re sustainability champions,” said Mr. Thomas Narh Korley, Zoomlion Foundation Coordinator.
