Zoomlion Ghana Limited has launched an exercise to disinfect various military installations in the country.
The exercise, launched on Monday at Burma Camp, will see the waste management company in partnership with the government to disinfect all military schools, barracks, offices, churches, mosques and homes of the men in the uniform within one week.
The Managing Director of the Zoomlion Ghana limited, Mrs Florence Larbi, speaking at the launch, said the disinfection exercise is targeted at killing germs, bacterial, viruses and other disease-causing organisms at all military bases across the country so as to help contain the spread of Covid-19 and keep their environment safe.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Akwa, commended government and Zoomlion for the planned disinfection exercise, saying it will give the military men the peace of mind to carry out their mandate without worrying, especially, about the novel coronavirus.
“It does not matter the cost involved; I urge all Ghanaians to adhere to the protocols out there so as to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus,” he further cautioned.
The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major (Rtd) Derick Oduro, said just as the disinfection exercise of both public and private schools in the country had already taken place, this exercise, which is to be carried out simultaneously in all the barracks, has become crucial to help reduce and control the community spread of Covid-19.
He, however, cautioned that the exercise alone cannot be the panacea to the spread of the virus if the citizenry do not play their part to stop it.
He expressed satisfaction about the measures taken by the Ghana Armed Forces to protect themselves against the virus.
He advised Ghanaians to continue to adhere to the protocols outlined by the government and the health experts.
He commended the military for their continuous support to the government any time they are being called upon.
“There is no doubt that the effort the Armed Forces are making to provide the needed all-round security and support, including logistics, in this period has contributed to the success we have chalked as a country and therefore, I salute the rank and file for your professionalism and commitment to duty,” he said.
