Jospong is doing what is required of Africa – Kenyan High Commissioner to Ghana

The Kenyan High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency, Eliphas Mugendi Barine has commended the Jospong Group of Companies for undertaking environmental projects of high quality and global standards which augments the case for African businesses to trade among themselves.

The High Commissioner made this comment after touring the Jospong group of companies’ subsidiaries; the Sewerages Systems Ghana Ltd, Dredge Masters and S.A automobile Ltd which are providing technologies to solve a myriad of sanitation and environmental challenges common in many cities within and outside the continent.

At the Sewerage Systems Ghana Ltd which is a liquid waste treatment facility, the High Commissioner was taken through the treatment process where the cesspit trucks dislodge into troughs which flows into integrated machines to remove debris and dewatered using coagulantof which the bio-soils is collected and dried for further composting for manure as well as “biochar” which is a green energy for cooking.

The Managing Director of Sewerage Systems Ghana Ltd, Ing. Florence Cobbold during the tour of the facility explainedthat the effluent move into the up flow anaerobic sludge blanket tanks for further treatment were methane gas will be generated and the effluent move into the Anoxic and Oxic Tanks where nitrification and denitrification takes place, respectively. “The last stage is for the effluent to move into the sedimentation tanks and the clear water will finally pass through a UV system for disinfection before final discharge”, she pointed out.

Ing. Cobbold hinted that biogas, which comprises of methane, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide would be extracted from the UASB treatment process, after which it would be cleaned for methane to generate electricity mainly to run the plant.

Impressed by the innovative projects being undertaken by Jospong, H.E Barine said “Africans must claim its space at the global table by ploughing back skills, creating wealth and value within the continent and in particular creating linkages between the academia and industry. The journey Jospong has commenced resonates with the thinking for others in the continent to borrow a leaf”.

The High Commissioner indicated that the time has come for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) aim of accelerating intra-African trade and boosting Africa’s trading. He encouraged Jospong to spread wings far beyond the five countries already in establishment.
