National Forest Plantation Development Programme

The National Forest Plantation Development Programme (NFPDP) is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission of Ghana.

The project involves, among other things, the establishment of woodlot and forest tree plantations, planting of fruit trees, rehabilitation of mangrove forest, urban forestry and fire management.

Among the objectives of the project are: the creation of jobs leading to the reduction of rural poverty, the restoration of the forest cover of Ghana, and reduction of wood deficit in Ghana
The project which is to address the current deforestation problems of Ghana has an overall goal of developing a sustainable resource base that will satisfy the future demand for industrial timber and enhance environmental quality.

Through this project, 16,000 youths have been recruited to plant different varieties of trees amid food crops with each person in charge of a hectare of land in five regions in Ghana
